As of October 1st, the federal farm bill has officially expired. This isn’t the first time, and last time Congress eventually extended it—but the clock’s ticking. Without renewal, we could see outdated laws from the 1930s and ’40s take effect come January. Those laws don’t match today’s market or realities on the ground.
The good news? Critical programs like trade promotion, crop insurance, and conservation funding are still running, thanks to built-in provisions lasting through 2031. But without a new bill, the long-term picture for Arizona agriculture gets a whole lot murkier.
Bottom line: we need Washington to stop kicking the can. Our farmers, ranchers, and ag businesses need certainty—not another round of delays.
